Do you know where you’re going?
That’s a really important question to be able to answer, especially as it relates to your relationship with God. Do you know where you stand in your relationship with him? And do you know where you’re going because of it?
If you don’t, you’ll handle surprises and setbacks with second-guessing. Did I make the right choice? Am I on the right path? Is this ever going to be any different, or get any better? And what’s waiting around the corner? Your eyes are darting in every direction, and your heart is full of dread…and with good reason, if your relationship with God is broken.
But if you do, you’ll handle surprises and setbacks with sturdiness. Whether you made the right choice or not, you stand in Christ’s forgiveness. That means you’re on the right path. Life is a marathon, not a sprint, but your eyes are on the heavenly finish line. Your heart has anticipation! And with good reason, if your relationship with God is healthy!
It’s essential to know where you’re going in Christ. One time, even as many turned around and left Jesus, Simon Peter did not give into the peer pressure. He answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:69)
There you have it. Jesus alone has the words of eternal life. In him you will always know where you are going.
Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, we so desperately want to control a world that seems out of control. But the further circumstances slip out of our grasp, the more we come to understand what you alone have the words of eternal life. In this world, we will always have trouble, but we will only truly find our peace in you. In you, we see limitless power and unending love. In your Son, Jesus, we see power and love come together in his selfless sacrifice for us. You alone have repaired our brokenness to solidify an eternal relationship with you. Because of you, since we always know where we are going, give us peace that passes understanding. Drive the fear far away from our hearts, and grow our faith in everything you say. It’s in your holy name that we pray, Amen.
