Celebrating Christmas with Young Children: Focusing on the Process, Not the Product

2. Christmas Sensory Bin

Fill a bin with jingle bells, pinecones, ribbon, and cotton balls. Let children explore textures, sounds, and colors while you talk about the sights and sounds of the season.

3. Advent Chain Countdown

Each day remove a link from a Christmas Countdown Chain.  This can become a counting activity or an addition and subtraction activity.  You can also talk about symbols of Christmas or things you see at Christmas and their meaning.  Or you could read one verse from Luke 2 each day. 

4. Starry Night Painting

Offer dark paper, white paint, and sponges or brushes. Let children create their own “Bethlehem sky” while you talk about the star that led the wise men. These activities are simple, meaningful, and perfect for families looking to celebrate Christmas with young children in Preschool or PreK programs in Katy and Cinco Ranch
