It’s a Matter of the Heart

Today we’re going to start a new series of devotions that cover different events that happened to King David from the Old Testament.

We start from when he was a boy with a story that has an important message for us…People look at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart.  

Here’s the bottom line: God never judges a book by its cover.  That’s something we all need help with, right!?  First for ourselves – that we think the path to happiness is by good looks and lots of money.  Then as we view others – that we judge others either GOOD or BAD based on simply outward appearances.

And here is a prayer for today: 

Holy Father, build me up today, because you care far more about the heart than about outward appearances.  Give me a heart that trusts you boldly, and holds fast to your forgiveness instead of to my lust for self-centered behaviors.  Then, help me to view others in the same way that you view them – that the heart matters most.  Help me to never judge someone as worthless simply because of their outward appearance.  Help me to never judge someone as astonishing simply because of their outward appearance.  Encourage me, so that I focus more on my repentant heart than anything else, and enjoy all of the peace that comes from knowing, “The repentant heart, God will never despise.”  It’s in your holy name that I pray, Amen.
