Old Testament Gem: Jonah Was Brought Up, Not Banished

What would you pray if you were stuck in the middle of a fish?

As far as we know, there’s only one person that can answer that question from experience, and that’s Jonah.

A far more common question would be,  “What would you pray if you felt abandoned by God?”  If you felt banished; trapped; or terrified.

Those feelings belonged to Jonah while he was in the fish, but many, many, many people also feel that way.  Life isn’t always sunshine and roses. We can feel swallowed by the trials of this world.  Listen to today’s devotion, and see what Jonah prayed when he was trapped inside the fish and how we can apply it to our own lives. .

Prayer

Lord Jesus, the God of all mercies and comfort, look with compassion on those who are shaken and troubled.  In your good time, give them a right understanding of themselves and your will for them, so that they do not lose confidence in you.  Preserve them from bitterness and fear, look on them with favor, and give them your peace that transcends all human understanding.  You crave delivering us from evil, not banishing us!  We are never alone!  It’s in your holy, precious name that we pray,  Amen.
