Prayer: Gracious God, by nature I am the opposite of holy. Day after day I see my sins of lying, greed, lust and laziness. I repent of them, but then the next day, like a dog returning to its vomit, I often repeat the same sins I earlier confessed. Like Paul, I cry out, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death (Romans 7:24)?” Before despair conquers me, remind me of your gift to me – the status of complete forgiveness in Christ Jesus alone. Then, strengthen the new person inside of me, so that i live my life in a way that honors you. Strengthen your rule in my heart, Lord. I want to give you gifts all year long as I love you as you have loved me first! It’s in your holy name that I pray, Amen.
