The LORD’s Purpose Prevails

There’s a story from Greek mythology about a labyrinth that was built to confine the minotaur.  That’s a creature that was half bull, half human.  Once inside the labyrinth, your only option was to meander endlessly through the maze without ever finding the exit.  There was no escape!  Perhaps the most terrifying part was the assortment of terrible choices.  Go left – and you might find the monster.  Go right – and the monster might also be waiting there to rip you to shreds.  Stay right where you are – and at any second, the monster might find you.

But one time, a young man named Theseus entered the labyrinth with a ball of thread.  He fastened the end of it inside the door of entrance, and he unwound it as he wandered through the maze.  He actually killed the minotaur!  And after doing so, Theseus was not trapped either.  He found his way out by simply following the thread to the entrance.

Does your life ever feel like a maze?  Does it seem as though whichever way you go, you only find more reasons to be afraid?  Make the wrong move, and you might get devoured.  Stay where you are, and the enemy will eventually hunt you down.  How can you ever find your way through a life like this?  Here’s the Scripture verse for today:  “In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps (Proverbs 16:9).” 

You always have a thread with God.

You aren’t in control, but the LORD is.  If you go one way and there’s something scary…that just gives you reason to trust the LORD all the more.  If you go the other direction, there’s probably something scary there too…but will that stop the LORD from loving you?  And sometimes, if you just stand still, take time to treasure that the LORD is exalted high above all, with his endless power and love.  You’re always holding God’s thread!  You always have an escape!  The LORD will rescue you from every evil attack, and bring you safely to his heavenly kingdom in the end! 

Now, if your life feels like a maze, fear not.  Instead, have gratitude.  For as you plan your course, God’s purpose will always prevail.
