O God, Create in Me!

Do you enjoy salivating over your favorite meal?  Do you have a favorite dessert?  Maybe also a favorite restaurant?  Of course you do!  And that means you enjoy what someone else has created for you to enjoy.  Yet you also must admit this boundary: a human creation must have some material to start with.  Nobody pulls the ingredients for their creation out of thin air.   

Nobody, that is, except for God.  He can do what humans cannot do.  And when we have sin infiltrating our souls, we need HIM to not just repair it.  He must create something totally new.

Create in me a pure heart, O God.  Renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation.  Grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.  These are all tasks I cannot complete, or even begin, on my own.  You will never despise the broken and contrite heart, O God.  Thank you so much for not despising me!  Amen.
