“I don’t believe you…prove it!”  

Whether it’s 2 children playing on the playground or 2 adults talking about a controversial news story…people like to have proof.  Those words come so naturally to us, don’t they?

The words we hear from Jesus’ enemies today sounds a lot like, “I don’t believe you…prove it” – although there’s one enormous difference.  The chief priests weren’t genuinely asking for proof.  They were only mocking him, because they wanted to murder him. 

In today’s devotion from Mathew 27 listen to the tone that the enemies of Jesus speak with as they ask for proof.  And then learn to never treat him with that same tone!

Prayer: Dear King Jesus, you know the Scriptures, which say, “The accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before God day and night…is filled with fury, because he knows his time is short (Revelation 12:10,12).”  He is “enraged” and “wages war against those who keep God’s commands (Revelation 12:17).”  The chief priests who accused you were only echoing Satan’s thoughts towards you.  But you have already triumphed over all of them.  And now, we ask, shield us from his fury and rage.  Drown out all his accusations with songs of the blood of the Lamb.  When embattled, fill our hearts with loud hallelujahs and the certainty of your love.  It’s in your holy, precious name that we pray, Amen.
