In Gospel of John 3:1–17, we meet Nicodemus a good, religious man who still had questions. After seeing Jesus’ miracles, he came to Him at night, wanting to understand more. Nicodemus thought goodness and knowledge were enough. But Jesus told him he needed something more, he needed to be born again. Not a better life, but a new life.
At the heart of their conversation is this truth: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Nicodemus came in the darkness with questions. He left having heard the greatest truth ever spoken, that the holy God loves a lost world so much He gave His only Son. Eternal life wasn’t something to achieve, it was a gift to receive. And that gift still stands today for you, for me, for whoever believes.
