On Ash Wednesday, we face the truth about ourselves. “Our offenses are many… our sins testify against us” (Isaiah 59:12). The picture Isaiah paints is dark truth has stumbled, righteousness stands far off, and no one steps forward to make things right. The Lord looked down and found no one qualified to save.
Then comes the hope: “He saw that there was no one… so his own arm achieved salvation for him” (verses 15–16). When no one else could act, God Himself acted. He did not search for a worthy Savior. He became the Savior.
That promise is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He came down from heaven, entered our brokenness, and accomplished what we never could. We are reminded that we cannot save ourselves, but we rejoice that His own arm achieved salvation.
