In John 20:19–31, we find the disciples hiding behind locked doors, filled with fear and uncertainty. Into that space, Jesus appears and speaks a simple but powerful word: “Peace be with you.” He doesn’t start with correction or questions, He offers peace.
Thomas wasn’t there for that first moment. When the others told him they had seen Jesus, he struggled to believe. He wanted proof. And instead of rejecting Thomas for his doubt, Jesus met him in it. A week later, Jesus returned and invited Thomas to see, touch, and believe.
This story reminds us that Jesus is not afraid of our doubts. He meets us where we are whether we are full of faith or full of questions. He offers both proof and peace: proof of His presence and power, and peace for our anxious hearts.
Like Thomas, we may not always see clearly right away. But Jesus is patient. He comes to us again and again, speaking peace over our fears and inviting us to trust Him.
