Surrounded!

“They’ve got me surrounded!”

Have you ever felt that way?  Of course you have.  And sometimes, to be surrounded is horrifying.  But it’s also possible that being surrounded could be very encouraging.  Which one does God have in mind for us?

And here is a prayer for today: Gracious Savior, sometimes I feel surrounded by trouble, and it makes me feel overwhelmed by all that needs to be done, and how vulnerable my family and I are to trouble.  Yet, I am so small.  Any effort to to fix things, or even guess what problems might be coming next, is scary.  Remind me that you are my Rock, and that you have me surrounded.  Even though everything around me is changing and moving, you never are.  And not only that, widen my view so that I see that over thousands of years, you have a long history of strengthening the faith of many Christians during difficult times.  They all ended in heaven with eternal glory.  Remind me that I am never alone!  Remind me that my problems are nothing terribly unique – many other Christians have endured similar things.  As you bolstered them to hold fast to your truth, bolster me in the same way as I march toward heaven.  It’s in your holy name that I pray, Amen.
