Teach All Nations

¹⁸ Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  ¹⁹ Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  ²⁰ And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
 
Every human being is on a quest to find God.  The problem is, many of them don’t know that.  They think that life is about preparing a controlled, comfortable earthly place where you get to be in charge.  But earthly utopia never really happens, and questions about God still abound.  Is God smiling at me, scowling at me, or totally indifferent?  Will there be a Judgment Day, and if so, what will happen when it comes?  What happens after someone dies?  I call myself a “good person” but what would God say?  Can I ever be sure of eternal safety?  Can anyone?

Isn’t it terrible to live with these gnawing questions?  Yet so many are.  It doesn’t have to be like this.  Comfort in Jesus Christ is available for battered souls just like these!  They only need to be taught the simple, plain and clear meaning of the Bible, which centers on Jesus Christ our Savior from sin.  That’s why Jesus gave us these marching orders before he ascended back into heaven:  “Teach all nations!”   

Over the next four weeks, this will be the focus of our emailed devotions.  You’ll hear from several members of our congregation, young and old, multiple times each week.  They’ll tell you in their own words why it’s so important to teach all nations.  Enjoy all the extra encouragement!  Thank God for the opportunities you’ve had to be taught about Jesus Christ our Savior.  And be ready to teach anyone, anytime about him – because when that opportunity comes, what’s the result?  Gnawing questions fade.  Peace reigns.  The human soul’s quest to find God is over.

Prayer – Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred, let me teach about Christ’s love; where there is injury, Christ’s pardon; where there is doubt, Christ’s promises; where there is despair, Christ’s hope; where there is darkness, Christ’s light; and where there is sadness, Christ’s joy.  Amen.
